Love In Motion

Love In Motion is a project that I am taking on where people in the creative business share their beliefs, draw attention to what is wrong in our world, and minister to the world around us about the Love that God has shown us; the Love that He has put in Motion for us! If you want to be apart of this project and put something together then contact me, let me know your idea and let’s move this forward and share with the world what we believe.

Get Your Face on a Book full of Tweets

Yes that is correct Soaring Design has joined the world of social networking and now has a page on Facebook AND on Twitter! So go hit the “like” button on Facebook and “follow” me on Twitter. If you don’t have either and will not join a social networking site, then I guess you really do have a life and are not like the rest of us.

Lately I have been focusing on the idea and the worthiness of “networking”. Yes I of course have been thinking of the use of networking in the sense of business and especially in the context of graphic design and web design. I myself do and have done a number of graphic design and video projects and have not yet even shaken hands with someone who is also living in this world. So I have been doing research, looking and finding who in my area is involved in the world of graphic design, web design, filming, motion graphics, etc. To my surprise I found quite a few freelancers and firms alike! It was really surprising! In my area I felt so alone and then all of a sudden felt as if I was apart of something bigger and better.¬†I have not yet created a website and haven’t ever delved into the world of web design, but would love to get started and do some extraordinary work for clients, but there is the question of where and how to start? This is what really got me thinking of how to network, who to get into contact with and left me wondering why I haven’t ever done this before.

So I have begun my journey of networking in my area and would challenge those who haven’t yet to get into contact with those who you either admire or do work in your community!

I started thinking about networking and success last night as I watched the movie “The Social Network”. This movie got me thinking in very different ways such was, how far is too far, why would you stab your friends who are apart of your network in the back for success, could letting someone in your network, in your path, in your professional life have a negative effect on you? Of course a majority of the movie was fictional, I do realize that, but there is a morality tale tied into this movie based on true events. I then thought to myself, “Don’t ever let yourself become so big that you forget who you are, who your friends are, and where you are going.”

So go out there and network, become apart of a firm, work for a design agency, do freelance work for the rest of your life, but do not forget that when you network with other people, when you are collaborating with someone it is important to keep these relationships, these networks of mentors, teachers, friends and colleagues; no matter what.

2010 Resolutions

So it is now 2010! I hope last year treated everyone well, I know I enjoyed ’09 but I am ready for this New Year! It is a little cliche to do this but I believe that a Designer’s Resolution Post is due… So without further adieu I give you the Soaring Design Resolutions List!!!

In the year of 2010 I will:

– Never EVER use the font family Papyrus. (I know that goes without saying or at least I thought it did until I saw that Avatar was sooo fond of it… BTW, check out the ISO50 post about Avatar and what Alex had to say about it: http://blog.iso50.com/2009/12/30/avatar-and-papyrus/).

– Try to purchase a camera so that I can 1. Get on the Photography train that everyone else is on and 2. Mix photography and graphic design together for outstanding prints!!! (Point 1 is meant to be funny while 2 is completely serious).

– Push myself to new heights with After Effects and make it just as second nature to me as Photoshop or Illustrator.

– Sell at least 20 prints and maybe even set up a little online shop or have them go for auction on e-bay (I know, I have some lofty goals).

– FIND A FULL TIME JOB AFTER GRADUATION!!!

– Try to make this whole Soaring Design gig an actual real-life running business (small but running like a REAL business none the less).

– Push my level of creativity so that people think I am crazy instead of fitting into the mold of what everyone else is doing.

And above all else:

– Continue to work with integrity and never EVER skimp on my product!!!

Well that about sums up MY resolutions for this year… If you have any you want to add just hit up the comments and I will be sure to respond as quickly as I can.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
